I'm trying to set up a network and on one of the computers there is no network neighborhood icon and the two machines will not "see" each other. Appreciate any help, thanks.

Is the NIC installed and working?

Is TCP/IP installed and configured?

Can you ping the NIC with IP address 127.0.0.1?

Are the PC names and workgroups names correct under the identification tab in Networking?

You can verify that TCP/IP is installed and bound to the NIC by typing

PING 127.0.0.1 at a command prompt

You should get four responses showing the time of response. FYI - 127.0.0.1 is the internal loopback address. Next ping the IP address for the other PC and see if it works.

The workgroup name has to be the same and the PC names unique. You should use IP addresses such as

192.168.0.1 - PC1
192.168.0.2 - PC2

Use a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
