Network is not accesable

August 5, 2009 at 08:38:19
Specs: Windows XP
I have a Belkin router.
On that router I hooked an HDD via a USB port.
Took me an tremendous effort to see that HDD. (Still sometimes it is there and all of a sudden it is gone??? other question).
Now I see it (sometimes) I try to acces the HDD.
When I try to access the HDD via My network I get a message "Belkin is not accesable", You might possibly not have the right authorization to brows this network source" , "Invalid computer name".
I have administrator rights in my Windows XP.
Anybody any thoughts how to solve this.

Sound like the Netbios is not talking to your WINs server. This is why netbios sucks and every one uses TCP/IP with DNS. I would have no idea how to configure that on your router because I have never setup a share on a router before. Most of the routers I have ever worked with use Linux not Windows protocols in which case I made sure that the FTP protocol is setup right. You will probably need to talk with some one who knows the OS on your router and how to configure it.

Thanks for the help.
I know the HDD to the router is new but it should work. Belkin designed it to do so.
