Hello all, this is my problem, i've got a machine running winxp-pro (with ethernet card on it) and a laptop without any OS (also with ethernet card, floppy drive, without cdrom, and without network boot in the bios). What i wanna do is install any windows version on the laptop and i don't know how, i've read about having the images of the OS on my winxp machine and boot my laptop with network so i can make them "talk", but i'm really lost, please give some help here guys, i'd really appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

You need a Windows Server OS to do Remote Installation Services. However, I doubt this is going to work.

do yourself a favor and look at this one slice of the pie at a time.

You can't network until you have a OS on the laptop.

First you boot up on a boot diskette and fdisk/format the drive [no OS recovery cd for the laptop?]
Next you go to Staples and purchase Laplink with cables.
You connect the two via serial or parallel cable.
Next you boot up on a laplink boot disk and copy the XP cds I386 folder to the laptop.
Once complete you disconnect the cable and boot up the laptop [format c: /s makes it bootable]
You then cd to the i386 folder and type winnt then hit enter. Install will start.

Once you get this far post back about how to network.

forgot to mention that xp cd can't be the same one you already used on your pc.

You can use the same laplink procedure to copy any OS install folders to the laptop.

for example you could copy the 98 cd to the laptop.

You need a program like Norton Ghost to image a "fresh" install (not the one on your other computer that you have been using). Then with the proper boot disk and an imaging program running on your other computer, you can write the image to the laptop drive over the net. Be prepared for some research and a learning curve.
