I have setup a small office network with adsl that has 5 PCs. They share files from a win 2k profession computer and are connected through an adsl router/ethernet switch. At home i also have adsl and would like to connect to my office network computer to access the files. Do i need a static ip address for the office router? or how do i set this up and what do i need.

Ideally you need routers at both ends that allow VPN's. Then you just set them up and access will go both ways. Or, just one at work and you can then access it from home.
At least one router need a static ip address for the vpn tunnel. However, some router also work with FQDN and take care of the DDNS zone updates.
It really depend on what router brand and model you are using.

Thanks forthe help so far, the office router is a Lexicon AR800C2-A series adsl router, this does not state anything about vpn support. I will upgrade the home router is there a router you would reccommend that i purchase that supports VPN.

I'm not sure of the exact model but I know Linksys makes several that allow VPN.
