I was wondering if the network exam is overly difficult. I have the Sybex text book which I am really liking.

What are some areas that I should focus my study on. I imagine the OSI layer is pretty important.

I have A+ certification and do have some experience with networking so I am not a total newbie.

Know the OSI layer inside and out, know which hardware operates at what OSI layer, know what protocols work at which OSI layer, did I say know the OSI layer inside and out? You cannot know enough about the OSI layer. After you can pass Sybex's test exam perfectly, find about 2 or 3 other N+ test exams, and when you can pass all of them consistantly, you might be ready for the Comptia test. Be assured there will be questions on the test that are not covered in any book or any test exam, ever. But as long as you know the OSI layer inside and out, you will probably pass.

With the above being said and true...

Having a debate and would like an opinion.

Which layer is responsible for sequencing frames? Data link or Transport?
Or, more specifically, does the data link layer actually 'sequence' the frames?

The segments are sequenced (at transport layer), not the frames.

Even if CRC is in frame's header, datalink isn't involved in error correction and sequencing that belong to transport.

As i remember, there was also questions concerning the differents connection types, cables, connector and their respective specs.

But it was the easiest certification i did. very straight forward, no surprise.

If anyone is still reading this thread.

Data Link does sequence frames. Transport layer is responsible to sequence packets.

I took the CompTIA Net+ exam today.
72 Questions requiring a score of 646 of a possible 900.
The questions were the same or very similar to all of the questions you can find throughout the text books and the internet such as http://www.freecomptia.com/net.html

You get 90 minutes to complete the exam. As this was my first exam I had the fear of the unknown manifested in anxiety going into the test room.
I completed the exam in 25 minutes and scored a 846.

In a nutshell...it was fairly easy.

Thank you all for the tips.

Hopefully I will be doing the exam in a couple weeks or so after going through my book (sybex network+ study guide) a few times.
