I have a problem with my Netgear or internet connection. It always worked well. I used to have only two computers set up on it and everything was perfect. Then, i added a computer for business, and it was still fine. When i added two other computers, is when the problems began. The first was a desktop, which the problem is in the range of the router, so i dont think it was anything major. The other was a laptop. Since i got the laptop, it wasnt connecting, even though i had another one connected, so i called support and they had me change some settings, of which i dont remember, and it connected. However, once this laptop was connected, all of the other computers acted differently, including this one. Since changing the settings, i have limited time on the internet. It's like the internet drops and comes back every ten minutes or so. I dont understand. All of the computers are like this, even the host computer for the router. What if i change the channel of the router? will this do anything? I cant remeber what i changed when i called, so i dont know how to set it back. if i did, however, the laptop wouldnt work.

"even the host computer for the router"
No such thing as a host computer for a router. You have 5 pcs but only 4 lan ports on the netgear, right? So how are you configured to have 5?
Please be specific concerned what is wired and wireless to the router. How is everything connecting? Can you get into the router? What is your lan ip scope? When you lose connection to the internet is it all the pcs? Can you http to the routers web interface when this happens?
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

It was never like this before. It's all wireless. I remeber upgradeing to the latest version of Firmware when i called netgear. I can get into the router. I lose connection to the internet with, i believe, all of the computers somewhere around the same time (maybe a few seconds difference). I dont know what you mean by "lan ip scope" so i cant answer that. By host computer, i meant the computer that is wired to the router and modem. It's a cable modem, and the router is a MR814v2. There is only one computer wired. everything else is wireless.

That explains the 5 pcs. Thanks. Scope refers to ip range. Your netgear does 192.168.0.1-254 [I have exact same router].
Next time things go flakey go to the wired pc. Test if internet works [we're trying to isolate if just wireless or everything] Next logon to the netgears web page and go to the wan tab. See if it has a ip and click the test button. Do you get the netgear web site?

Ok, so it happened about 2 minutes ago. I lost internet on this computer. However, i checked, and i dont even know if there is one wired. I thought there was, but is it possible to just have the modem connect to the router? I didnt install it myself, so i'm not sure. BUt anyway, i ran to thtat computer at the time of internet loss, and it had internet, but within a few seconds, it too lost it. I dont understand, because it happens about every 5-10 minutes and last about a minute. Usually i can deal with it, but it gets annoying. All of the computers are like this.

Sounds like your router is dying. Could be your provider is having network problems, though. Try connecting a PC directly to the modem and see if you still have these problems.
- Make sure the PC's TCP/IP network protocol is set to "Assign IP Address automatically" and "Use DHCP Server for WINS resolution.
- Disable the firewall on the PC.
- Connect the cable from the modem directly to the PC's Ethernet port.
- Reboot the PC and let it find an IP Address
If you're going to have it connected for more than a minute or two enable the Windows XP firewall, set to connect directly to the modem.
If you have the same problem it's your ISP. Call them and complain that you keep getting disconnected. If the problem goes away it's most likely your router flaking out. You can try reloading the firmware but most likely you'll have to replace it.

I actually just reloaded the firmware, and the same thing is happening. I had to wire my laptop to it inorder to access the routerlogin.com page to enter settings, and left it wired for a bit. It does the same thing. Is it really the router?
