We have two Maxtor Shared Storage Drives on a separate domain then the business Internet connection. It's setup so we can access these drives via the network however (only network admins have access). This is my best understanding of the situation, as I'm relatively new to the job.
Once a week we come in early to do maintenance which means resetting the router. The problem is that it takes 15 - 20 minutes for us to be able to access the shared drives from the main network. If we sit down at the computer on the same domain as the drives, we can access them immediately. For the life of us, we can't figure out why it takes almost a half hour for the drives to "propagate."
First, if the only thing you're doing is resetting the router, then likely the issue has to do with the router.
Second, because the unit is on a different domain from the one you're connecting from, there's going to be a delay to begin with and what with resetting the router, well, expect a longer than normal delay.
Anyhow, I would start troubleshooting this from the router.
If you don't mind me asking, why do you have to reset your router? I can't think of any reason other than a bad unit that needs replacing for resetting a router like this.
Same question as above....why in the name of creation are you rebooting servers? If there's a problem with them, fix it. If there's no problem, reboots are NOT required.
