I have recently switched to bellsouth dsl and I am having a horrible time with my network disappearing.

At the moment, I have two computers connected to the network: one of them running Windows XP Media Center 2005 SP2 and one running Windows 2000 SP3.

Equipment involved:
Modem - Westell modem
Router - Linksys BEFW11S4

I have been having a time with my network neighborhood shares and such disappearing. They will be working fine and then I'll defrag or reboot or something and I won't be able to connect to anything on the network.

I can still connect to the internet but nothing local. This is driving me crazy. I haven't found the right way to remedy this. Sometimes if I unplug the modem and router for a few minutes and then plug the modem up first (wait a bit) and then plug the router in, it will work again. Sometimes it doesn't help at all.

Has anybody else run into this sort of problem?

For anyone who stumbles across this, it ended up being two things:

In the Westell modem, you need to make sure in 'Configuration' that it is set to 'Always On.'

Each computer that had a firewall that was blocking access.
