Comment:

Just wandered if someone could have a quick look at my network diagram and tell me if it is acceptable as it is.

I am fairly new to networking and am working on an assignment where I have to create a scenario and I want to make sure I have a proposed network architecture sorted before I continue.

The image can be found at the included URL.

Thanks

yeah sorry about that I thought it would just display the image URL rather than the actual image which is at that URL.

Anyways the image is clearly shown below the message.

Is there anything essential missing which would mean the network couldn't function?

Cheers

Slippy

The scenario is based around "a world without FCAPS". I'm using a small newly formed business as an example mentioning how due to lack of expertise they have not adhered to the 5 key functional areas of network management set by ISO.

By the way can anyone suggest to me faults with a network which are likely to occur? What typical faults would be picked up by a Network Management System (NMS)?

The diagram is correct but not real functional.
1. Do you really need 2 DNS server for a small network?

2. What is the 2 network server, does not mean anything to me? what is the purpose of those 2 servers for?

Remember, if you doing your homework and keep in mind that the network not only functional but also at the minimum of cost.

niceguy,

Cheers for the pointers. The image is just an example of a network and the number of devices on the network doesn't really make too much difference for what I'm doing. The network is likely to be slightly bigger with a greater number of workstations to necessitate the DNS servers.

I was also thinking of targetting a web design/hosting company (small-scale) so the DNS servers would be needed and the network servers are for general storage aswell as containing the web pages.

If I were to aim in this direction would the network still be OK?

thanks

blackdogx,

>"still sounds like a homework assignment."

I never said it wasn't but a forum is an obvious place to ask questions when you're not sure on things and to get help with what you're stuck on. I'm not asking anyone to do it for me.....

reading the textbook or paying attention in class is the obvious place to start. Do you have study groups?
