Ok I think I posted this question a few hours ago, but i think i posted it in the wrong area. So here we go again....

I just got cable modem and I am trying to set up a wireless network and connection. I have Linksys brand Wireless G stuff but i dont think that matters in this case. Anyway, I spent an hour on the phone with techs last night and came up with nothing but a theory as to what is wrong.

Ok I have the modem, router and adapter installed. I actually uninstalled and reinstalled all of them but that obviously didn't help. Ok when you go into network connections in the control panel, it is supposed to have the LAN connection (which is unplugged since I am using wireless) and then you are supposed to have another connection for the wireless. Well there is nothing there. It is supposed to pop up there and also in an identification balloon in the lower right of the taskbar but it doesnt. It's supposed to appear there automatically after I install the adapter but it doesn't.

Here's the thing. It must be something with my computer. I have the same problem with my dial up. My dial up works b/c i knew what properties and info to enter. But my computer doesnt identify it in network connections or on the taskbar when i am on it. As a result to get offline i have to restart everytime.

Any ideas on how to be able to view my connections again?

Have you tried seeing if you can get into the router? You can open up Internet Explorer and then type in the address 192.168.1.1 and if prompted for a password and user. The user is admin and the password is admin. If you cannot connect to the the router then it is your computer.

No I can't get to that address wirelessly. I can get to it when I use ether wire because it goes into the default connection on my computer. But when I use wireless it doesn't work because I can't access the connection. What I'm asking is if anyone knows how I can view my connections because I know it is there, along with my dial up connection (which does work) but its floating around and not showing up in network connections like it should.

Have you completed your windows updates recently?? It sounds like a software problem. Also, check your drivers or firmware and update them.

Yes, actually when i was on the phone with the tech support he asked me about updates and I installed them right there. But nothing happened. I know the connection is there somewhere. It's just not showing up. According to the tech guy i need to click on it so it can automatically configure. So i guess in other words does anyone know where exactly the control panel and network connections are located deep in my computer? i found control panel in system32 but no luck with the network connections. If i can get in there i could create shortcuts maybe....

hrmm...I am not sure where the network connects are located within the system. The only place I know of is the control panel. I will look around for you though.

I'm having the same problem with Network Connections. I've re-installed Windows three times now. Sooner or later my dial-up connection dies and disappears. Has anyone figured this out yet?
