Hello, I have a machine with xp pro running, and I have an older dell that I use strictly as a file server. It is running windows 2003 server and I have a sporadic network problem where I loose connectivity. Usually I can just rerun the network wizard on the xp machine and then the issue clears up. Some times it does not, I try rebooting both machines, some times that works, some times it doesn't. Yesterday, I could not ping either machine from one another, this morning, they can connect and I changed nothing...any ideas on where to start on this? I have a couple of network hubs/switches connecting 4 pc's here at home, this is a wired network tht has been in place for a few years, nothing new, just this connectivity problem that comes and goes.....Thanks!!

Do you have DHCP running on the server, if not try setting it up, or check your static IP's are correct.

Once you've done that, if there's no change or improvement you will have to start checking NIC's, cables, and network devices. You may have a bad one somewhere in your setup.

hey thanks for the replies, I will check on the DHCP and see if thats it. Its just so flaky I am leaning towards the hardware failure, just hard to troubleshoot. I will spend a couple hours here and there with no luck, and them viola! its working. Thanks again!!
