Hi!
I have Windows XP home Ed. After formatting the hard disk I can not connect to the internet. I think I have problem with my network card. I opened my pc and could not find any network card but I found just a little device/fire wire (1394 net adapter). I bought a new network card and fixed it but the computer did not accept it and I can not open the Windows, just DOS. I think I have bought the right network card.
What do I do?
May be my 1394 net adapter (network card) is sitll working …..
Do I change setup or something else.

1394 net adapter is a FIREWIRE PORT

XP has no MS-DOS whatsoever, it is NT COMMAND PRROMPT.

If you bought a PCI Network Card then XP should of recognised you have installed new hardware, if not you have a hardware problem. Most newer motherboards have on-board network ports.

Anyway go into DEVICE MANGER and see if any DEVICES do not have drivers installed.

yes, I found: network card : 1394 net adapter.
sound & VGA cards are also installed.
I had no problem with my pc but after formatting I got this problem and bought a new network card. If I remove the new network card the Windows is working without problem.

Hi Peter.

If you had a connection to the net before you formatted, why did you think it would be necessary to buy a new network card after? Was there a problem with the connection before you formatted?

I think you are missing a fundamental setup setting somewhere. Please tell us how your PC was connected to the net when it worked?
