Network Cable problem with router

I have an ADSL router which works fine. prior to this I used a network hub which works fine.

I have made my own cable which works fine via network hub but will not work from Adsl router. It will however work if connected to router via hub uplink but will only work at 10 mbps not 100.

can anyone tell me why this is and can I get back up to 100 Mbps. the cable I have made is around 30 meters long?

Check the pin assignments and make sure you didn't accidently build a crossover cable. 30m is pushing it: Wheel the other PC into the room with the router and try hooking them together with an off-the-shelf 3m cable, see if you have the same problem. Then you have to check your network settings on each machine and maks sure they're both set for 100Mbs throughput.

Ethernet cables are never supposed to be more than 150' long w/o a repeater, ie. another hub at the midpoint. I suspicions that this is a lot of your problem.

the IEEE standard for ethernet is 100M or 328 feet; therefore the ethernet cable could easily extend much farther then you described.
here is the pinout for a straight through cable
1-1 2-2 3-3 4-4 5-5 6-6 7-7 8-8
a crossover would be
1-3 2-6 3-1 4-4 5-5 6-2 7-7 8-8

you should use a crossover to connect; hub-hub, switch-hub, NIC-to-NIC...

ethernet uses pins 1,2 3 and 6 for transmit and receive respectively; Orion is correct as it could be a cable issue, you might also want to check to see if you can change the port speeds on both ends; try to manually set the router port to 100 and full and your NIC to 100 and full.
