Finally after about 10 days of tweaking my 2 pc’s to connect them on my new wireless network I was able to map the hard drives and all is working fine. I found that the zone alarm firewall was giving me a lot of problems and I remove it from my system. I have one problem left. The addresses to map the hard drives must be in IP address (example: \\189.222.0.100\C). If I map the address like \\Desktop\C or similar it says that it cant find the network. Both computers are in the same workgroup and have different computer names. I know almost nothing about networking so please explain your help in detail. Thank you

If you know almost nothing about networking then a detailed answer would only confuse you or go completely over your head.

I'm not trying to be rude here, just pointing out a fact.

You may want to do some google searches on ARP and do some reading up on it. I suspect that's where your problem lays.

Maybe you are using the wrong format when mapping the drive. I only mention this because you say you know nothing and it is a easy mistake. Format should be:

\\server name\shared drive name

Check out this doc from microsoft which explains mapping a network drive in detail. It may help:

Thank you all for the help. I did find out what ARP means but ofcourse cant see how that will help me. I also use the correct format to map the drives. Since there is no easy solution, I decided that the way I have map my drives with the IP address instead of the computer name is good enough for me. Seems it does the job.

You have no address resolution. If you create a hosts file with ip address/machine name and place the file in the correct location [/etc folder]you will be able to map by name.

Are you ready for where Microsoft wants you to go today?

Here is what I did to resolve this issue:

The DHCP on my router was enabled.

So I went to the properties of the TCP/IPv4, click Advance, click the WINS Tab and under NetBIOS Settings click the Default button (Use NetBIOS settings from the DHCP server. If static IP address is used or the DHCP server does not provide NetBIOS settings, enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP).

Now when I map my drives and type the computer name, I get connected.

Thank you all
