i have for systems and i wish to create a home network with them. They run differant OSes. Windows 95, ME, 2000 Pro, and XP. I have ethernet adapters in each that work properly according to device manager, the client for microsoft netwroks installed, file and print sharing enabled, on the same workgroup, but none will see any other. i tested the network cords in my friends home network and they work, i tested the hub in his network, it works fine. they can share a DSL connection but cannot see each other to share files, printers, etc. they do not see eachother in Network Neighborhood/My Network Places. Ideas, please? thanx.
Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours.

I always found browsing network neighborhood to be a bit screwy, especially with older versions of Windows that depend on NetBIOS for computer name browsing.
I would try accessing the computers that you want to view via IP address. Click Start, Run, and type in \\ipaddress.
After the window with the shared resources pops up, go back to network neighborhood and see if the computer is viewable.

You won't see any shared resources unless you've defined some shared resources - you have done that, haven't you?

i am new to networking so bear with me. Before i had to format the 2000 Pro and XP machines due to spyware, they would see eachother just fine. now they will not. what is shared resourses? if you mean shared folders and stuff, i have shared the printer on the 95 machine, and the hard drives of all of them. but they wont even find eachother with a 'find computer' search

You must have NetBIOS enabled on all the machines to be able to access shared resources - ensure "Enable NetBIOS..." is ticked on the Advanced tab of TCP/IP settings for the LAN connection on each PC.
