I have 1 2350 and 2 GX110's I want to set up on a network. My router has a 4 port switch integrated. I have run the network wizard on all 3 computers. I have restarted the router and what i can see in my network places varies with each computer. But I cannot access any that have shown up. I hope I have explained that so you can understand.

For XP Home Editions, Windows XP Simple File Sharing will let you share a computer's disks and folders with other computers on the network. The caveat is that it is not safe because (1) everyone is the administrator, and (2) if one computer gets infected the rest will also be infected.

I have zone alarm on all computers could this be blocking the access? I just noticed I have blocked alerts, and the ip address is the router/switch address.

Well...I have never used the network wizard...but let's go thru the basics...

1. All computers need to be in the SAME
workgroup...
2. All computers need to be in the same
Subnet...since you are running out of a
4 port router that will happen automatically...
3. Turn off ALL firewalls, includeing Windows Firewall...
4. All 3 computers need the same user account with admin rights and the same pw...

Now I haven't set many XP Home machines...but they do not network quite the same way that XP Pro does...

On XP Pro, and I assume on XP Home, you need to share something, a folder, a drive, My Documents something...In XP Home I believe there is a common folder that everyone can put their stuff in that is shared...Dont remember the name, but if you do a little googling around, you can find it...

good luck

I'd say that's likely your issue yes. Set zonealarm to allow local network traffic to connect and you should be good to go.

I had the 2 GX110's seeing each other last night but then it just went away and I didn't do anything as far as the network goes, I was cleaning out 1 of the machines. I haven't tried to re-establish a connection yet because I want to get the Zone Alarm issues dealt with first.
How can you tell if you are only putting the network in and not bad stuff. It doesn't say anything about network. It does have my network/ethernet card listed, but that is also how I connect to the internet. I don't see anything that says local internet traffic. The particular computer I am at right now, the 2350, has 2 addresses under zones in the firewall. They are 65.32.5.74 and 192.168.1.1. There is also a loopback adapter entry of 127.0.0.1

Thanks for the replies!

I just installed Network Magic on my computers and it fixed all my problems. I hope no one has any bad reviews on that program! Please let me know if its not a good thing. Thanks!
