Comment: I have a workgroup network setup in my home and want to have the printer connected to the router so that the computer with the printer does not have to stay on all the time. Is this possible? I have a Brother laser printer.

Reply: (edit)They make wireless routers with builtin print servers like my Netgear FM114P at work. I also have a Dlink print server patched into my wireless router at home and it works fine also.

Reply: (edit)Exactly...what wanderer is trying to say is you need a print server. And no it is not possible without one. I like the D-link print server also. -DF ABIT NF7-S v2.0 2500+@2.2GHz(10.5x210) 512MB Kingston HyperX

Reply: (edit)I have an HP 1100/A laser set up on my network with a SOHO print server, works fine. The only problem was that the print server was designed to plug directly into the printer on a CENTRONICS-50 plug, but HP uses that screwy "mini-50" Centronics connector. Had to build an adaptor to use the HP cable that came with the printer with the print server instead. Also, the SOHO print server requires IPX/SPX be connected and bound first in order to file/printer sharing. Otherwise the network client can't "see" it. I don't know about the DLINK print server but (aside from set-up problems) I'm very happy with my printer set up to work straight off the LAN.
