This is my second question and I had some good responses from my first so was hoping that I can conclude this as a follow up from my last thread. The following is an netstat display of my current connections:
Proto Local Address Foreign Address State
TCP JDoherty:epmap JDoherty:0 LISTENING
TCP JDoherty:microsoft-ds JDoherty:0 LISTENING
TCP JDoherty:990 JDoherty:0 LISTENING
TCP JDoherty:1030 JDoherty:0 LISTENING
TCP JDoherty:5679 JDoherty:0 LISTENING
TCP JDoherty:7438 JDoherty:0 LISTENING
TCP JDoherty:10110 JDoherty:0 LISTENING
TCP JDoherty:netbios-ssn JDoherty:0 LISTENINGTCP JDoherty:1464 207.68.178.61:http ESTABLISHED
TCP JDoherty:1465 207.68.178.61:http ESTABLISHED
TCP JDoherty:1474 ukmdvip2.uk.2mdn.net:http TIME_WAIT
TCP JDoherty:1498 193.38.108.213:http ESTABLISHED
TCP JDoherty:1511 ukmdvip2.uk.2mdn.net:http TIME_WAIT
TCP JDoherty:1514 www.bay122.hotmail.com:http ESTABLISHED
I can understand some of the concepts of this but not all and would like to ask for some advice if possible?I know the addresses 207.68 and hotmail belong to Microsoft and 193.38 my cable provider. But can anyone tell me what ukmdvip2.uk.2mdn.net is? I don’t explicitly remember connecting to this and I have read somewhere that time_wait processes could slow down the transfer speed of your machine is this true?
Also the foreign port number is displayed as http is this port 80 on the foreign machine?
Also I have various ports Listening which I believe are services that are executing on my machine. I know that this is not a problem but can anyone tell me how I would find out what these processes are?
Thanks in advance for any help and advice you can provide. Jd76..

That's doubleclick.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double...That will explain it.
You need to learn how to do whois lookups and DNS resolves.

Thanks Don does explain what it is but does this mean I have a problem program executing on my machine? Any ideas about my foreign port question? thanks john,

No. You're surfing sites that have ads within them, as virtually every website does.
For example, hotmail. ;-)
