I have a Netgear WGT624 Wirless Router. Usually it works fine, but every so often, and lately very often, it does something very strange. Basically it stops letting computers connect to the internet. Everything checks that there is still a connection however, its almost like it just slows down a lot. Slow enough that web browsers will give up loading even google. It seems to almost load parts of pages. This affects all computers, including those wirelessly connected and those wired by ethernet. The strangest part about this is that if the wireless radio is turned off, the computers hardwired to it will return to connecting to the internet normally. Once I turn it back on, nothing works. Now I'm pretty sure its not my cable modem and I have upgraded, downgraded, everything graded, reset, etc my router several times, so I'm really at a loss. Sometimes it corrects itself after a day or two, but I'm still not sure. Should I just go with a new router? If so, what's the most stable one I can get that supports 802.11g? Please help.

While researching a problme with the Netgear WGT624 Wireless Router I'd bought (wouldn't connect to my ISP's gateway), I came across several complaints about behavior like this. There's a firmware upgrade they recommend but it doesn't always fix the problem: Netgears have gotten downright unreliable since they were bought out a few years back.

I solved my problem finally by returning the router and swearing never to buy another Netgear ever again.

Yep I decided to go with a new router, D-Link GamersLounge, I hear great things about it. Thanks all.

I had the same problem with a client's firewall. I contacted Netgear 2nd level tech support ( I am a Powershift Partner) and was told there is a known issue with the WGT624. They gave me an RMA and the new unit works fine now.

I am ahving the same issue with my WGT624. Did you have to pay for the new unit? I don't know much about this stuff, but if there is a solution, I would like to find it!

I have had three WGT624 replacements, all via Pasha in India or Bangledesh. All they know to do for a router that continually drops offline is to send a replacement. My latest is just as undependable and I am simply going to trash it, absorb the cost, and buy either Linksys or D-Link. Has anyone experience with either and care to recommend? This for a wireless network.

And I agree with the fellow who said never again to Netgear!

Bill
