Comment: I purchased a Netgear RP614v2 router to share my broadband RoadRunner account my a second computer in my home. I cannot get the router to stay connected. Netgear tech support seems stuck in their scripted troubleshooting guide. I have a Dynamic IP, updated firmware, power cycled both cable modem and router, used the computer MAC address for the router, ipconfig /release (renew) and threatened with a hammer. Seen on another post I checked the Winxp event viewer. In system log it reads; The IP address lease 192.168.0.2 for the network card with network address 000XXXXXXXXX (my mac) has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.0.1 (the DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message). My computer works fine when connected just through the cable modem. Thanks for any help.

Reply: (edit)Don't do the mac address on the wan port as your local computer. I have always had mine set to "use default address" in the wan properties. I have connected these routers to both DSL and cable. With cable I am setup to get stuff dynamic on the wan port. On DSL I am setup static on ip and dns. but I think your issue is the mac address.

Reply: (edit)I tried using default when I first set it up and had the same problem. Then it was Netgear tech support that suggested setting the router mac to the pc mac. I can try default again and see what the error in the event log says.

Reply: (edit)I had this same problem with a netgear router. I exchanged it for a dlink and stopped having any problems. Occassionaly I will have problems with my dlink because of the network key. Are you using a network key?

Reply: (edit)I never saw anything in the setup about a network key. Netgear support has e-mailed some other things to try; set the MTU to a lower number(it's now at 1500), turn off the SPI function of the firewall. If I try this tonight I will let you all know if this helped.

Reply: (edit)Well I just tried disabling the spi firewall and set my MTU to 1492. Each time I make a change to the setup the software says it is updating. Then it goes to the same screen Internet Explorer goes to when it can,t find a web site. "Action cancelled. Internet Explorer unable to connect to web page." I must then power off the router and see if it stays connected. So far it hasn't. With a 30 day return policy from NewEgg, I think this one is going back.
