netgear n300 wireless router no internet.

February 27, 2011 at 01:28:18
Specs: Windows 7

I have a Netgear N300 Wireless Router (WNR2000), and I am trying to connect the internet through it. The internet light stays amber, and though the router recognizes it, I can not connect to the internet. My computer also doesn't seem to recognize the router at all.

Installation CD will not work either.

What can I do?

Have you connected your computer by wire first, to configure the router, to authenticate at your ISP?
You also have to configure the wireless part of the router, by connecting to the router by wire.

After that, you can connect to your router wirelessly.

Read the routers manual for detailed instructions.

I was able to connect the Netgear to get internet after I plugged it into the router I was using in the beginning. Then, I connected wirelessly with my laptop, and was able to configure it. But I still can't connect via a wired connection to my desktop, or connect without having to have it plugged into a second router.

Second router?
In that case, can you post the output of ipconfig /all
from both computers?
