Just added a Netgear MR814v2 wireless router to my 4 PC LAN. Internet access and file sharing is fine, the porblems come when I try to set up port forwarding for an FTP service I have running on one of the PCs.

I have followed, I believe to the letter, the instructions on Port Forwarding and have had no joy.

Connecting through WS_FTP appears to work fine right up to the last second and then I get an error:

WINSOCK.DLL: WinSock 2.0

Any advice anyone can give would be appreciated!

which ports are your forwarding? obviously you have forwarded 21... however, it looks like you didnt forward tcp port 20. ftp uses 21 for control and 20 for the actual data transfer. you will need them both forwarded.

But I don't want to use 21 thats the point; want to use another port - in this case 806.

however you want to do it you will need to forward whatever port you have for ftp control and whatever port you have for ftp-data on the router. you could have ftp control on 806 forward to your internal server on 21 (or 806 or whatever) and ftp-data on 805 forward to your internal server on 20 (or 805 or whatever). if you cannot change the ftp-data port on your ftp server you will have to forward it to 20 regardless of where you are forwarding it from.
