I have a Netgear MR814 that a friend gave me, but he does not have the installation CD that came with the wireless router. I suppose that I can't get it to work without it? (I've tried - no success).
The Netgear site doesn't seem to offer any help as to where I can find this software.

Well, I don't think installation CD is necessary for you to have in order to get your network up and running. What did you do to install a network? please give us the configuration of the network you are planning to run (like the number of computers, the distance between them, preferably the OS they are running, and ... ) so that we can help you get your network running.

You don't need software you need the manual. You can download that from the Netgear web site.
To gain access to the router you have to plug your computer into the switch with a patch cable. You use IE to go to 192.168.0.1 [might have to set your stations ip to .2 so you are in the right subnet [subnet mask is 255.255.255.0]
but this is all covered in the MANUAL step by step.
