ive tried connecting up with all security off to see if that was the problem. no firewall, disabled wep and anything else remotely security based. i still had no luck!!! used win xp home networking wizard, workgroup names are the same and everything!! do the workgroup names have to be the same as the wireless ssid name?

Hi,

As well as all the correct ptotcols etc.

Have you set all the hard disks on each machine to shared and enabled file and print sharing on each machine.

My computer select each HD and right click

Each machine also needs to have the same Workgroup name and have unique names on your network.

If you are running a Firewall each machine also needs to have the other machines as trusted sites / zones / IP addresses.

I would not recommend runing without a Firewall or AV for that matter.

You may get Internet Access from each machine without this but you will not get a network up and running.

If you have not been running a Firewall & AV & Spyware removal software then you need to install these and update them all.

If you ran the network wizard on each system in order to activate file and print sharing you probably activated the XP internal firewall. Open the network connections, right click on the local area connection icon and look at the advanced tab. If there is a check mark next to the firewall setting remove it. Try looking at the network neighborhood to see the other systems. Install a firewall program such as Zone Alarm and setup a trusted network. You should be able to get them to talk to each other.
