Solved Netgear Dual Band router 5G mode quit working

Specs: Windows 7

I have had the Netgear 3300 Dual Band for three years. Everytime I wanted to access using my laptop, I had to choose between 2.4G and 5G connection. For about a month now, the 5G does not show up. It doesn't show up as a network to select no matter what device I use. I have reset the router and updated the firmware. Both connection lights are blinking. I recently purchased and IPhone 4 and still I do not have the option of selecting 5G. Can anyone suggest a solution?

Very few wireless devices/adapters are 5G-compatible yet, you're router simply has it to make it "future proof" as more devices adopt that standard in years to come.

A wireless device or adapter which isn't 5G-compatible won't see the network when the router is configured for 5G. It's no good updating the router's firmware to try and solve the problem - it's the other wireless devices which are lacking support for the 5G standard.

Thank you for your help. I suppose that is the problem, but I don't understand why it suddenly quit giving me 5G as an option when I have not changed my laptop or computer and it gave me that option in the past. In fact, I was able to select 5G for my laptop. Now, I don't even get the choice

Sounds like the 5G died on the router. May want to contact its technical support and perhaps rma it for a replacement.
