Hi all

I have a real head-scratching problem, answers on a post-card please! (or just reply to this post...)

I was using a Linksys WAG300N router, but that died the other day. I've swapped it out with a Netgear DG834Gv3.

Neither my PC nor my smartphone can connect to the wireless network. I know the router is fine, as the PC connects ok via CAT5.

The smartphone connects happily to other wireless networks.

The router, PC and smartphone all have the latest firmware and drivers.

Yes, the wireless access point is enabled.

I've tried with and without WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA&WPA2.

There are 2 other networks in range, on channels 1 and 6. I've tried every wireless channel.

Netstumbler reports that the signal is fine, and it's not dropping intermitently or anything.

I've checked that the wireless MAC filter is not enabled. I've also enabled it and added the MACs of my clients. and then disabled it again.

So, my question is, does anyone know of any "known issues" (e.g. "the aerial is just for show, it doesn't _really_ have WLAN") that may be affecting me here?

Thanks

.Dave

Oh, my. Was my first answer a stinker.

Did you enable dhcp and a pool of IP's with possibly a short enough of lease?
Could there be any leftover settings on the wireless's such as gateway or proxy information that is now different?

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

DHCP is enabled, but I've tried giving the WLAN adaptors on the clients static IPs too. I reflashed the firmware and wiped the configuration and went through it again, setting up one section at a time.

I'm currently using 192.168.220.254 for the router's IP, with 192.168.220.100 to 192.168.220.199 for the DHCP pool. The clients are using 192.168.220.1 to 192.168.220.5.

All subnets masks are 255.255.255.0, and I've tried manual and auto DNS settings.

I guess what I'm looking for is for someone to tell me something like "Ah yes, the DG834Gv3. You have to turn wireless off, change the settings in the config file manually, then turn it on or else it won't work". (I've tried that anyways).

Gateway settings - the ISP's gateway address is automatically configured (and correctly, as the wired clients can use te internet). No proxy server exists or has been set up.

The lease time is one thing I haven't fiddled with though. I'll start playing with it, but as clients still won't connect when set to use static IP and DNS info I'm not optomistic...

Thanks

.Dave

Try a "repair" on the nic cards. A repair clears out many network settings.

There should be no real difference between the two routers if you know that they are similar products. Are they exactly similar in all respects. All settings and channel and band similar.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.
