Hi there

Been trying to install a brand new Netgear DG834G Wireless Router onto my brothers computer. Have come across an issue when the setup program that came in the package cannot detect the connected router. All the applicable lights on the unit are showing but it either says it cannot find the router or when it does it starts the installation and then hangs for 10 mins. Iam setting the router up via the ethernet card and it has its drivers insatlled and reports to be working fine.

I have the same router at home and found no problems with installation.

Comnputer Setup:

Windows XP Pro
VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter
Netgear DG834G Wireless Router

Can anybody help.

Thanks

Drivers? What drivers? Connect the router to the PC and the modem. Then open the web interface to the router in the browser. Make sure the NIC is set to DHCP.

Like don2006 says - no real need to use the CD to install the router. Fire up the router until the lights settle, connect your phone line to router, and your PC's network card to the router (using a standard network cable).

Check the TCP/IP settings on your network connection, set them to "obtain automatically". You should be able to log into the router by opening internet explorer and going to http://192.168.0.1 or something similar (double click your connection and click "support" tab - the gateway address is most likely that of the router). Log in and check your internet/WAN status is connected (if not, contact your ISP), and think about putting a simple WEP password or something on the Wireless settings of the router; or your neighbours will be laughing.
