Hi all,
I'm trying to gain some knowledge on NetBui. I've been to sites that layout the definition but I'm still lost. Can someone describe NetBui in simple terms :) and when you would use NetBui and any additional information to understand. I appreciate all help.

There was a real good page on cifs somewhere. It had a good history of the developement and use. I thin it was a samba page maybe at samba.org that talked about all that.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

NetBios Extended User Interface was an enhancement to Netbios, one of the original Lan Manager protocols. It is nonroutable. I am sure you can find more if you google netbios or netbeui history

Don2006 why did you think the question was a hack question out of curiosity?

I didn't think it was a hack question but I remember those 2 groups and that document with a lot of information on that subject.

Interesting. Of course these days hacking netbios/netbeui has gone the way of alchemy. Thanks for the response.

deacon - i did quite a bit of research on NetBeui at one stage; send a private message if you need any advice.
You'll answer two of your questions at once if you read Steve Gibson's article here:

Wanderer: As you said, a lot has changed in the hacking world. These days, I guess it's buffer oeverflows and php vulnerabilities, just to mention two. My brother's web site has been scanned a few times for php vulnerabilities from some IP address in China and phrack has discussed buffer overflows numerous times until the last issue.
