I am having a problem with netsend .. I can not seem to net send to particular users on my network. I am a domain admin, so there should not be a permission problem. I get the following error.
An error occurred while sending a message to BARRXP. The message alias could not be found on the network. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2273.
Does anyone have any suggestions ? (and yes messenger service is running on both machines)

it may be that the xp machine you called is not reponding to your smb netbios call because of this. Also if a fire wall that blocks smb netbios (137 138 129) is between you and the target machine it could cause the same issue.
