I had 2 pcs running win xp hooked up to a 4 port smart switch from netgear. this switch allowed switching between the 10 and 100 mbps rates. now everything worked fine for the past 3 years unitil last night when both pcs were unable to connect. i had contacted my isp and they mentioned that there were no changes made to the server etc. i then hooked 1 pc directly into the jack and it connects. however when i hooked the hub ot the jack, no lights apart from the power light comes on. i switchedcables and still same effect. i then switched the hub with another working hub but i am having the same problem.any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Most smart switches have a way to access them from an IP address or at least a reset button to get it back to oem state. Try that.
I can't explain why the known working hub isn't working. The only difference would be the mac address and the way it might auto negotiate for a correct cable. (as well as speed and duplex/h/f)
Go back to basics. Identify the cables as patch or crossover. Be sure you understand how your hub and switch are configured. Is there a "X" button to allow a crossover? Be sure you understand when you may need a crossover cable (for the most part almost all newer nic's support either cable as well as many modems and most soho equipment.)
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.
