hi, ok ill try to keep it simple. i have a billion router with wireless,, basically 4 kids too much downloading. problem is in the router settings, i can get into the QoS part and limit the download speed but every time they turn a laptop on or off the ip address changes. but in any of the computer or laptop settings i cant find how to make the ip address static? i used to know how to set it for a wired computer but wireless doesent seem to give me that option? and in the QoS settings it doesnt give me the option to use mac address, only ip address. hope this makes sence.

Okay, this is real simple..

Your router should have the option in there for remembering machines, and assigning them the IP they have now permanently, whether your network is DHCP or static. Every router calls this function something different, but its a function that makes that router remember and assign all the computers on your network the current IP's they have.

If that doesn't work, there's always the editing of the hosts file, which will stop them from going to particular places altogether.

function is called ip reservation or mac filtering

once you have associated the pcs mac address with a particular ip address the pc will get the same ip until the nic is changed.
