Comment:

I have a windows nt server running behind a sonicwall firewall and a cisco router. I need to map a drive on a clients computer that is outside the LAN. The clients computer has a cable modem connection. The network drive is used for an application running on the client that needs to save and access data from the server. I also need it to be as secure as possible. My question is can I do it in a way that is very secure and what technologies are involved?

the best Idea would be to use Virtual private networking

Set the server up to be a VPN host (not sure how in win NT, in win2k it is done through "routing and remote access" if that helps), make sure to use a VERY secure password (10+ digits combining upper-case, lower-case, and numbers)

the Client would then connect to the server through a VPN connection and it would be just like the client was directly connected to the server
