Hi,
I orginally posted this in the Windows XP Forum (http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/156206.html) but they thought it should be posted here so I will repost it here. I am sorry if this causes any problems.
I need to setup a Standard Modem on my computer, however it does not have the Standard Modem Types available in the list. I am setting up a tethered modem for my laptop using my Blackberry, and in order to do it you need to create a Standard Modem using one of the Standard Modem Types. However, when I go to Control Panel -> Phone and Modem Options -> Modems -> Add... -> Next (check Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list.) most computers have a list of Standard Modems (i.e. Standard 56000 bps Modem, Standard 33600 bps Modem, etc.), but I do not have those in the list. I need to pick one of those to create the modem I need for the Blackberry connection. I have done this on another computer and it works fine, but the computer that I really want it on it does not have the choices to pick a Standard Modem. Any ideas on how I get the Microsoft Standard modems installed? Can anyone please help me get them back? Is there a Microsoft driver I can reinstall to get them back? Any help would be great.
Thanks so much for the help.

don2006,
You can create a virtual Standard Modem Type at any time using the Add... buttom on the Phone and Modem Options window. The Blackberry software creates the Standard Modem and sets it up with the BB modem drivers, but it can only do this if the Microsoft Standard Modem Types are instlled. The "modem" just creates a conduit by which the computer can communicate with the Blackberry through the data cable. This worked perfectly for me on a computer that has the Microsoft Standard Modem Types properly installed, but my laptop does not show the Standard Modem Types are available to setup. Any ideas as to how I get the Microsoft Standard modem drivers installed so that I can setup a Standard 56000 bps Modem? Thanks again for the help.

I don't know what to tell you. I searched the registry to see if I could find where that list is stored but no luck.
If you could find where that list is stored, there is a chance that you could import them. That's all I can think of at the moment.

click 'Have disk' then point to the following folder: %systemroot%\ServicePackFiles\i386
it will see all the standard modem types.
