We have a server with Novell 4.91 and our computers all have different operating systems (Win. 98 & WinXP) The programs we use the server for or both DOS programs. We are a VERY small place, so we can't spend the $15,000 that we have been quoted to upgrade everything. WE just want to get a new server but, basically transfer everything from this server to the new one. (Yes, we are behind the times, put for now that's all we have). Is there a way to use a cord or something to just transfer the HD info from one to the other. We don't want to have to "install" anything from the begining.. Because no one will support us if we do that. We have to be able to basically take the hat off one and put it on the other with no problems.
And does it matter what type of new server we get? This one dies all the time.. and takes a VERY long time to reboot.
I know my computers, but not a lot about servers. So please in the simplest terms as possible if you have any ideas... THANKS!!!

In simplist terms your plan will not work. Dos apps do not run well on XP/Vista let alone a server OS like 2003.
Additionally you are running Netware and a version no longer supported, last I checked. You would need to reinstall netware on new hardware.
You are between a rock and a hard place.
Option 1:
buy 2003 server/hardware and replace the dos apps with their windows versions or use different apps.Option 2:
by 2003 server/hardware and use VMware/Microsoft Virtual Server to "virtualize" the netware environment for these apps and run them virtually.Option 3:
Find via ebay or other recycled hardware site your exact same server, but in better condition and then you can just move the HD.Any way you go you need to bring in qualified help.
