Need help with wireless router

Just purchsed an EnGenius dual band concurrent router and belkin n1 notebook card to access wireless internet for my laptop. I've updated the firmware on both and spoke with isp to make sure my setup was good. As long as ethernet cable is plugged in I'm accessing the internet OK, but it shows no wireless connection on. All lights are blinking OK on the router and the card is flashing like it's receiving but no connection. They are right next to each other on the desk, so distance isn't a problem. When I click the card icon, it even shows the router, but no wireless connection present. I'm kind of out of my element here. Does anyone have any ideas? May need to call the computer guy in town to come out for a visit :) Any suggestions would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Sometimes hardware from different manufacturers isn't compatible. You might want to look at something like this.

Ooh, that is a great point, grasshopper. Actually, the tech who came out and installed our ethernet connection advised me to get card and router from the same mfgr, but when I checked with my computer tech ex-neighbor in another state, he said he had never heard of compatibility being a problem. I'll check this out and post back with the results. Thanks so much for your help . . .
