Need help with router bought from Craigslist

June 4, 2010 at 18:48:39
Specs: Windows XP
I have a Netgear ce0560 router I bought from a guy on Craig's list. I hooked it up exactly the way he told me to hook it up. I came into it with my cable, out to my cable modem, and out of there into my computer. Sometimes I try to use my wireless laptop, and it works, but most of the time it doesn't. Are there some software drivers or something I need to install that I didn't get with the router?

It would help to provide the correct model number for the router, but it appears you have it wired wrong. The internet source (cable, DSL) connects to the modem...the modem connects to the router....the router connects to the PC.

There are no drivers need, but you should assign your network a name & configure the security settings:

"I came into it with my cable, out to my cable modem, and out of there into my computer."

That would be incorrect. Should be cabled as so:
Modem<>wan port on Router<>router<>lan port on router to pc

You should download the manual from the manufacturers site and set the router back to factory defaults. Set your own admin password on the router and configure it accordingly.
