Hi all,
am complete novice with computers and some advice would be greatly appreciated! Am getting BT Broadband soon, and my computer runs on Vista basic. I need to buy a wireless adapter, but have little money. Would this one work?

First question is, why do you need a wireless adapter?
Typically, most highspeed installs include a modem. Whether the modem connects to wireless, cable, or DSL is irrelevant. The modem is what you connect to your PC/Laptop/Router.
Personally, I recommend you buy a good SOHO Router for your own protection. If you feel you have to go with wireless, buy a wireless router with at least 4 LAN (hardwired) ports. This way you can go either way.
I suspect your laptop/PC already has a built in RJ-45 connector so a wired solution may be your less expensive route (leaves you $$$ to spend on a good SOHO router).
My DSL provider gave me a combo unit that is the modem, a router and a wireless AP all combined into one. You may get the same thing. You should give them a call and find out before spending any $$$.

In the UK BT Supply a Quality Modem/Router.
Why not just use a RJ45 Ethernet Cable to connect, wireless does not have to used !
If you want wireless then something like:
