I have a Cable Modem for R.R. in my office & want to set my kids computer up, a few rooms over, so they can have access to high speed internet as well. I have a laptop(Win 98)w/ no ethernet hole but I do have a USB port. I currently have the high speed modem connected to the laptop by USB. My kids desktop is XP & they don't have an ethernet hole either, only USB. I need some suggestions on a cheap way to get their desktop wireless. Don't have to have my laptop wireless. Hardwiring for Road Runner is in my office w/ my laptop. Don't want to run a wire thru my ceiling or floors. Just trying to find the right Router w/ accessories to get everything running(not looking for the fastest speed either, just faster than dial up). Just bought a Linksys Wireless - B 2.4 GHz 802.11b & a Linksys Wireless - B USB Network Adapter 802.11b. That's what Best Buy said would be inexpensive but would work & I wouldn't need to buy anything else. Well, no ethernet holes on my computers so it won't work. Is there some sort of cheap adapter that has an ethernet hole on one end and a male USB connecter on the other end? Help!

Yes. You can buy either Ethernet USB Adapter or PC! adapter if there is a solt available on the motherboard. Both are relatively inexpensive.

I forgot to mention that the Best Buy guy had me buy the Linksys Wireless-B USB Network Adapter because I didn't know how to take off the back panel of my computer and put in the other card. He said it is difficult for a beginner. The problem is the Linksys Wireless-B USB Network Adapter has a female USB hole on it and my desktop also only has the female USB hole in it. How can it fit on the desktop?

So, when I go to Best Buy I just ask them for the Ethernet USB Adapter?

When you go back to Best Buy, just purchase what is called "USB Gender Changer Adapter A Type Female to B Type Male " Cost less than $10 bucks.
