Hi. I've been experiencing this problem so many times that im sick of it so I am trying to find a solution that will fix it once and for all..

On this comp internet works fine. But on my other computer it is connected to the same router but it does not connect to the internet. I type ipconfig in console, and it says blank for DNS and primary gateway. The computer worked before until I disconnected the router and connected it back.

My internet ISP is Comcast. the pc is win xp.

Do not use DHCP. Setup static IP and set DNS on the xp as the router IP and let the router handle it. That will solve your problem. Remember in small network, static IP still the best choice and have more control over it.

Right click on your Network Neighbourhood icon and select Properties. In the window that opens, click on TCP/IP to highlight it and then click on the Properties button. In the property sheet enter your IP info and then click on Advanced to enter your Gateway and DNS info. When you've done that, reboot once and you should be good to go.

Sorry for the delay but here is in detail:
1. Making sure that you know exactly your router ipaddress and subnet mask for your LAN which can be found in your router configuration.
2. Assigned ip for your pcs. Example:
routerIP = 192.168.0.1 mask 255.255.255.0
now you can decide the last byte of the ip for your ip as
pc 1 = 192.168.0.2 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway = 192.168.0.1 dns = 192.168.0.1

pc 2 = 192.168.0.3 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway = 192.168.0.1 dns = 192.168.0.1
and so on.

3. Apply the static ip to your pcs on the network as "Curt R" explained above.

Please post your result.

Goodluck

Hey, sorry for taking a long time to post

I tried doing what you said so. My router is Linksys Wireless -B.

For the first pc i put

192.168.1.100, mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1, dns 192.168.1.1

after i did that i rebooted and connected to the router but did not work. ie wouldn't open up and it says 0.0.0.0 for ip when i highlight my network adapter.

what should i do?

Your dns entry is wrong.

You did not put in a static ip address as described. If you had [barring corrupt tcp/ip or card driver] you would have that ip address no matter what.

Double check by doing a ipconfig at this pc at a cmd prompt.

You need to make sure you check the radio button for "Use the following ip address" and NOT "optain the ip address automatically"

Do a ipconfig /all on the working machine to get the correct dns entries.

never mind fixed it

what i did was..

1.Connected PC directly to the Cable Modem
2.typed in ipconfig /all in command and recorded the MAC Adress
3.Connected PC to the router and added the MAC Adress to the router

and thats pretty much it..after disconnecting everything and connecting it back internet started working. anyways thx for your guys help.

k? thx.
