|I have two Acer netbooks that use my home wireless router. I use a Netgear router that I have non-encrypted, but that I have set to only allow certain computers to access (via mac address). When online with one of the netbooks, at varying times, two other networks show up in the available networks window (not on the preferred list) and it throws the netbooks off-line, and prevents my network from showing as available. I can either (1) un-check the restrictions, resetting the router, and then re-check, or (2) unplug the router and then boot-up again, and this puts my home network back in the available list, and resumes the connection. This only happens when the two neighboring networks pop up. I am reluctant to encrypt my router, as there are so few people surrounding me and there's never been anyone else showing up on the attached devices list, making it assumable that the restricted use is working. When I did have it encrypted, I was having other problems, like my Sony Playstation having connection problems to update firmware, or it throwing the other computers off-line when it was updating. |
I am totally perplexed. Can I block the other routers from even showing as available networks when they are not even on my preferred list? (They are encrypted and apparently coming from the same place, as the names are the same with a 1 and a 2 as part of them) Or is this coincidental, and something else is knocking my network from access by the netbooks?
Thanks so much!
