My tablet won't connect to the internet

October 5, 2012 at 09:02:55
Specs: Windows XP
I have two laptops that work great with the router we have on my desktop. My tablet, however, will not connect. It does connect at my local office, where I'm using the exact same router. Any suggestions?

Honestly, I have no experience with tablets. I would suggest you need to check and ensure your tablet's wireless interface is set to "obtain address automatically" (ie: from DHCP) and that your wireless profile on it is correct. If need be, delete the profile and try to reconnect.

If that doesn't do the trick, your best bet will likely be to call the manufacturer's support line and ask them to help you.

Thank you for your response. I have already tried those suggestions, but I'll contact the manufacturer.

At this point, considering you've tried what I suggested, contacting the mfg is going to be your best bet. There may be something specific to the type of device you have that I have no clue about (hey, I have no clue about a lot of things....LOL) or you may even have a bad wireless interface on the device.

You have provided us with very little information. What brand and model is the wireless router? What brand and model is the tablet? You may want to look into how you have the wireless setup. If it is a newer router that has 802.11n capabilities and your tablet only supports 802.11g, then it will not work with your router unless you ensure the router is setup for backwards compatibility (which is usually the default, but still a possible problem. If it is a linksys router, it is called "Mixed mode"). Also, what type of encryption do you have on the wireless router? If it is WPA2 and your tablet does not support WPA2, then you are also going to have a problem connecting. Try temporarily removing encryption (assuming you have setup a wireless key) and see if you are able to connect.
