Specs: Windows 7on laptop Windows xp on my desk top
My screen on my desktop computer is not working. I would like to connect my desktop to my laptop to view my files on the desktop and transfer them to my laptop.
My laptop is an HP dv7 Pavillion with windows 7 with mircrosoft office 2010 professional.
My desktop is a dell with Windows XP and Microsoft office 2002 professional.
Please help, and tell me how to accomplish that.

Are you sure the desktop's monitor (LCD or CRT) isn't at fault (or perhaps the video card/chip)? Connecting a desktop to a laptop to view files would likely require connection through a network, and if you haven't already set both machines up with permissions to share files, then---without a display on the desktop---that would be nearly impossible to do...

You could get an external drive case (or something like ) to connect your hard drive directly to your laptop.
