My internet loads movies fine from YouTube when I'm plugged straight into the modem. But when I plug my computer into the router and then try to watch a movie, it only loads it half way, then stops.
One of my friends said that a gateway was closing, and I have no clue what that means...
I also cannot use instant messengers when my router is plugged in, it seems the messengers log out and in whenever they feel the need.
Any help will be greatly appreciated...
My Router is an Ativa Wireless G, but I plug directly into it, while my mother uses her laptop.

"gateway closing" means your friend knows not what he's talking about.

Make sure your computer and your mom's computer do not have an IP conflict.

Also, Ativa sounds like a no-name company. I strongly recommend picking up a name-brand router. Linksys and Netgear are both great. If that's not an option, then at least make sure the Ativa's firmware is up-to-date.
