I have a few computers linked together with a wireless
3com officeconnect router. It works fine and dandy except
for one bloody annoying thing that happens quite often.
I'm not sure if this is some sort of problem with my ISP
(more than likely) or if is actually my router or something
(since I do have the firewall set on maximum security).

It occurs on all of my computers and most of them use
different operating systems and hardware configurations
so it obviously isn't anything to do with them.

Basically what happens is I'll be surfing the net (usually
after a long period of inactivity). If I go onto a particular
website I cna use it fine for a few minutes, then all of a
sudden it'll stop responding. If for instance I'm surfing a
forum I'll view a few posts then all of a sudden when I got
to read another one the page will continue to load until
the browser times out. It will often do this for minutes.

However, usually, I an go onto a different website and that
will work fine. I now have a habbit of visiting a site first
that I'm not interested in but I'll surf over it anyway until
this problem occurs then I'll go off to the site I really want
to look at... The problem really seems to follow me wher I
go though. Sometime If I do this I can be surfing the other
site and then that will stop responding, however if I go
back to the site that wasn't responding previously, now it
will be working.

Usually after half an hours worth of use the problem goes
away.

So, is this a sort of problem one could expect from a
router is or is my ISP? I really have no idea which one.
Figured I'd post in case anyone else has had this issue and
knows the answer to save me a lot of troubleshooting. or
complaining. Anyway thanks.

It sounds like the router is losing it's connection to the ISP from time to time but I would kook at the event viewer on the Windows machine for error messages first. Start, run, eventvwr.msc

Event viewer doesn't show any messages related to this issue. The other thing is, if the router was losing the connection to the ISP wouldn't that mean all websites I tried to vist would time out? That's why I'm inclined to believe it is my ISP because as I said if one website flops out I can pretty much always go to another one and use that fine. I have emailed them about it but they just said it must be a problem on my end.

Do you have any friends who use the same ISP?

If it's the ISP, they might have the same problem.

Do you have or can you borrow another router?

I did think of asking someone else, I posted on a forum related to this ISP, someone else there mentioned they have the same sort of issue so it must be my ISP. Thanks for the help. I'll complain about it.
