I've looked everywhere trying to fix this problem, maybe someone here can help me out. Recently, my computer has been saying "Unable to connect to wireless network" and my internet won't work. I've tried the following without success:
Winsock XP fix
Repairing the connection with the XP repair function
Removing and reinstalling the network card
Linksys "NetSet" program (I get the response: "Your computer does not meet the minimal requirements for wireless networking." This is obviously not true because it was working fine before.
Some other various thingsWhen I do ipconfig, sometimes I get an IP address, sometimes I don't.
Sometimes the message changes to "Limited or no connectivity" and I get the computer icon with the triangle with the exclamation point, and my wireless icon is green which means I have an excellent signal. My router is in the same room as my computer. Usually I get the computer icon with the red X and a red wireless icon in the systray. The computer DOES see my network when I go to "View all wireless networks" but it won't connect. I've had problems with this in the past, but usually one of the things I've listed fixes it.
My equipment:
A Dell compy.
Windows XP
Linksys Wireles-B broadband router
Motorola wireless network card in my PCI slotOther things of interest:
I recently crashed my computer when I tried to do a system restore (trying to see if it would fix this very problem) when the system froze in the middle of the restore. It corrupted my registry and I had to do a bunch of stuff to get it working again. However, my network was having problems before this.
I don't have spyware, viruses, or anything else that would be causing this problem. Ad-Aware, Spybot, Panda's online scan, came back clean and I also have Spyware Guard and Spyware Blocker. If I can provide any other information, please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've been tearing my hair out trying to fix this! Thanks so much in advance.

Oh, and I should probably also note that if I plug my cable modem straight into my computer, it doesn't work either. I get the "Limited or no connectivity" message.

I would look into buying a new ethernet card.
I believe in the Big Bang. God said it, and BANG it happened!

Is your Dell PC still under warranty? If so, I would check with Dell before replacing any hardware, just so you don't void the warranty. (BTW, RWD1996, I agree with your slogan at the end of your posts!)

My Dell isn't under warranty anymore. My ethernet card doesn't seem to be the problem as neither my wireless networking card nor plugging the cable modem directly into the PC works. I think it might be a problem with my IP. Every once in awhile, it will try to "acquire network address" unsuccessfully. Then, suddenly, it will come back with an excellent signal but be incredibly slow. I'm confused...

Thanks najtech, for your comments on my slogan, lol.
That is quite a strange problem though. I'm running out of ideas too.

Yeah, it's quite frustrating! Thanks everyone for trying, at least. Maybe someone can figure it out...
