My laptop is stuck with wireless router old password

October 19, 2012 at 17:29:01
Specs: Windows XP
The wireless router PW has been changed, I got the new one correct but upon entering it on my laptop it goes around circle showing,

"Wireless network detected"
and then,
"Unable to connect to preferred wireless network"

It never works. I don't know how to fix this problem. It did not happen on my iPad.
Does anybody have a clue?
Thanks in advance.

How did you get the new password?
You have to take a look in the routers configuration setup, to get the current password (encryption key).

Or maybe, you can get the current encryption key from the iPad wireless connection settings.

well if you know the name of your router you can go into the registry start/run/ type regedit and hit ok. Go to edit/find and type the name of the router for example... linksys wrt54g and hit F3 on your keyboard whatever it finds related to your router model delete it and hit F3 again repeat the process until it says finished and restart your pc. But before you do this create a system restore point first. This should fix the problem if there was a corruption in one of the trace file somewhere in the registry with your router.. What you are doing is clearing out anything in regards to that wireless routers infomation that was stored in the registry. all that wireless router infomation from that model will be put back in again as soon as you relog into your wireless router.
