I just got hispeed internet for the first time a few weeks ago,and i had a family friend over and he as using my pc and noticed that my internet speed was very slow.He said it was so slow that it was running like dialup speed, and downloading at 15kbs.So i contacted my isp and they told me it was my firewall,so i removed the firewall and my speed was the same.So i called them again, and i went through a whole whack of troubleshooting and everything was good. They tested my modem and it also was good.So they told me that i have corrupted windows files that are causing my very slow speeds.I had my firend over that no`s a litle more about pc`s then i do and he scanned my pc with every Av thats recommeded on this site and the scans were all clean. He also scanned with Spybot, and Adaware and they had only 2 spyware but they were removed, but my speed is the same. Can anyone help me please?its taking me over 10mins to download very small files.

it would normally be a firewall that causes this but if u have uninstalled it that wnt be the problem.what is your bandwidth s`posed to be? it probably inst spyware that it causing this problem.possibly a virus.do a virus scan to iliminate the obvious.if that fails resore your computer to a restore point when the modem was working correctly.or IMO honest opinion do a fresh install of XP as looking for a problem like that could be tricky without a technician being present

yes,I completly removed zonealarm and my speed was 10-14kbs no matter what i downloaded.MY buddy checked for viruses trojans, spyware im computer is clean. He even said my computer is running normal except for my internet speed. My isp said i should be over 100kbs depending on the traffic.Would a Windows repair work if i use my windows disk?I just had everything istalled new 2 weeks ago.

i would try that 1st.if all else fails start looking at your hardware.whatever u are connecting with either rj45 or usb u may want to check as it could be a hardware fault with your equipment.or maybe a faulty modem.try a process of elimination.

First, try a ping command to see what your round-trip times are and also if you have any packet loss.
If you are getting any loss, try a tracert command to see where the packet loss is occuring and contact your ISP.
I hope that you have run an up-to-date anti-virus and up-to-date versions of Spybot and Adaware. Also, do you have all your updates for your OS.
Also, are you using proxies, I have seen problems in the past with proxies.
Also, go to the web site bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ and perform a speed test.
Note: One good way to determine if it is your computer or your internet connection (ISP) is to test your computer at a friend's house or bring in a friend's computer to test your connection.

... i hav the same problem, my friend has the exact same internet provider as me, he lives a few blocks away, and yet his download speed doubles mine if not more =/. i took off firewall, ran spybot and adware and my comp is still slow u think it cud b comp network card?
