Hello!

I just purchased a new wireless router (Linksys WRT54GS) and I love the wireless idea. The problem I’m having is that the wireless coverage doesn’t cover my whole house. I know I could buy a range extender, but to just double the coverage area wouldn’t be enough. I live on the countryside and I would like to cover my whole house as well as some outside area. I was wondering if a guy would be able to connect the router and amp the signal on a regular TV antenna. I’m not so sure the physics behind it would work or not, there’s a lot of GHz, dBi, and 802.whatever that I don’t understand. The area I would like to cover would be about 250ft in radius.

I was also looking at this website: http://hyperlinktech.com I don’t know what I would need to get the job done. Also, I would like not having to spend a lot of money.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, any advice you may have to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :D

Plugging a Wi-Fi router into a TV antenna wouldn't achieve anything, in fact it would probably make matters worse.

Antennas are built to operate at their best at particular frequencies. The difference between Wi-Fi and TV frequencies are so great as to make it useless.

The best you can do is to get an external Wi-Fi antenna like this. A good external antenna designed for the job will likely extend your range.

Note that the amplifiers advertised on the link are for export or military use only. Use them without the necessary authority and you are likely to fall foul of the Radio Regulatory Authorities.

Yeah if you get a better antenna like ^ then look at getting one or 2 repeaters which are just like a router/modem combo in looks but only extend the range of the wireless.
Its going to cost you about £30 or $50 ruffly for a ok acsess point.
Could there also be things that are interfearing with it? I never forget beeing around my uncles house and having to reconnect to his wifi everytime his washing machine did a spin dry. True story!

Yes it does. Sorry, I gave you the wrong page. You should be looking at 2.4 Ghz.

Have a look at these.
