Comment:

hi, i'm 1st time updated to SP2, not sure if it's SP2 related (clean reinstall of winXP)

when i right-click on My Documents, it says "The Properties for this item are not available". it's been changed previously to point to F:\Files instead of the default location.

fine, so i right click on F:\Files click properties and discover that in the Sharing tab, there's no "Do not Share this folder" and "Share this Folder" options to choose from. iinstead i only see Local sharing and security with "make this folder private" checkbox. and Network Sharing and Security has been greyed out.

is there a way i can check and preferably revert it back to the old "Do not Share this folder" and "Share this Folder" options.. much simpler.

feedbacks welcomed.
thanks in advance.

What you described is due to the option of Advanced File Sharing. Enable Advanced File Sharing and you will get the option to Share the Folder or Not Share the Folder.

To enable advanced File Sharing open an explorer window (Not IE) and select Tools<Folder Options. On the view tab scroll to the very bottom and place a checkmark in the Enable Advance File Sharing option.

Note however, that sharing and making My Documents private appear to be two different things. I did some testing. With Adv. Sharing enabled I did not have my documents shared. But, when I logged in under another account, I was able to access those files. When I disabled Adv. file sharing and checked the Make Private, I could not access those files when logged in under another account. The make Private option has to do with user documents being shared with other accounts on the same computer. Sharing a folder makes it available to others on the network. I don't see where to make the My Documents folder private with Adv. File Sharing enabled - strange!

did as described, however there's no "Enable Advance File Sharing option" instead i see "Use Simple File Sharing" being checked. but they are the same (i guess)

i clear the checkbox "Use Simple File Sharing" and now i can see the Share this Folder & Do Not Share this Folder options in the Sharing Tab.

thanks for your help!
