Comment:
I just got a new PC with the Vista Home OS.
I have a small "network" setup connecting 2 PC's using a router via hardwire cat 5 wiring. The network was running fine for the first couple weeks with the new pc but now theres a problem.
It seems that whem I boot up the Vista pc it connects to "multiple networks" and I can not connect to the internet. "Network and Sharing Center" shows 2 networks, they are Network(private) and Unidentified network(public Network). I must disable the "Unidentified Network" which then tells me that I'm currently not connected to any networks. Then I get a window that says the "Local area Connection" is disconnected and that I must enable it. When I do it, it solves the problem and the Internet connection comes back.
Thats a lot of infomation to ask a simple question. How can I delete a network? I would like to get rid of the "Unidentified Network" so it does not appear on boot up?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

Thanks for the info but I'm computer illiterate.
I googled "interfaces" and "lan connections" but found no fixes that I could follow.

wanderer, can you walk me through it or direct me to a link?
Thanks,
Joe

right mouse click Network off the Start menu. Select properties. In the network and share box on the left is "manage network connections". This brings you to the network interface page. Right mouse click on any interface you want to disable and select "disable"

Thanks again for the reply. I tried your suggestion but there was only 1 connection that I did not disable.
I ended up calling Dell. Dell walked me through the solution.
It seems vista is no conpatible with all hardware, in my case my router.

I'm not sure exatcly which settings he had me change but they were in the local area connection window under properties. He had me check or uncheck a number of boxes. Sorry I can't help you in more detail.
